It’s been a busy week for the academy in terms of permanent departures and players on loan, but there’s still a lot of work to do.

As for permanent departures, Jordi Osei-Tutu has signed for VfL Bochum, where he was successfully loaned out in the 2019/20 season. At 23, it’s a good time for Osei-Tutu to leave, although there is a feeling the right-back could have impressed had he been given a first-team chance a few years ago.

Daniel Ballard is reportedly close to signing for Burnley. Ballard has amassed plenty of loan experience at Millwall and Blackpool, while he also played for Northern Ireland at senior level. The centre-back is another example of a player who now needs regular playing time at senior level.

In terms of loans, Mika Biereth left for the first time on a temporary transfer with RKC Waalwijk, while Omar Rekik will also play in the Eredivisie with Sparta Rotterdam.

Meanwhile, in England, Harry Clarke will spend the season with Stoke City and Tyreece John-Jules has joined forces with Ipswich Town as he finally looks to overcome his injury struggles.

There are still many more deals to sort out – James Olayinka, Ryan Alebiosu and Matt Smith, for example, could be sold or loaned out.

Tim Akinola and George Lewis have received new contracts and could be loaned out, and other players are up for loan such as Miguel Azeez, Ben Cottrell, Kido Taylor-Hart, Tom Smith, Nikolaj Moller and Mazeed Ogungbo.
