RICHMOND, Va., September 12, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — capital square, a leading national sponsor of tax-efficient real estate investments and a developer of multi-family mixed-use communities, today announced the promotion of Whitson Huffman to Co-Chief Executive Officer. Huffman oversaw approx. $6 billion in real estate transactions since joining the firm in 2018.

Huffman joined Capital Square in early 2018 and most recently served as chief strategy and investment officer, leading the company’s real estate investment business. During his tenure at Capital Square, he oversaw approximately $6 billion in real estate transactions, total assets under management increased by more than $5 billion and established a successful development division which launched nine development projects totaling 1,700 apartments and over $600 million in development cost.

In his new role as co-CEO, Huffman will work alongside the company’s founder and co-CEO, Louis Roger, to manage all aspects of the business. Rogers will remain actively engaged in the day-to-day management of the business and will work closely with Huffman in the continued expansion and strategic direction of the business.

Prior to joining Capital Square, Huffman was a partner at JBG SMITH Properties, a real estate investment trust and fund manager listed on the New York Stock Exchange. At JBG SMITH, Huffman has participated in the development of 1,300 residential units and over 210,000 square feet of retail space with a total capitalized value of over $650 million. It also applied for rights to more than 1,500 residential units and 350,000 square feet of retail space, with a projected capitalized value in excess of $400 million. Huffman was previously employed as a consultant in Ernst & Young’s financial services group, working on multifaceted banking and capital markets projects for systemically important financial institutions. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from University of Miami Farmer School of Business and a Masters in Real Estate, Finance Georgetown University.
